The Roots of a Dream

Endowed in 2008, Dennis Washington Leadership Graduate Scholarship, formerly the Dennis R. Washington Achievement Graduate Scholarship, provides financial assistance to State and National Undergraduate Horatio Alger Scholar Alumni who have exhibited leadership, integrity, entrepreneurial skills, and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity, and who aspire to pursue a graduate level education. The program awards scholarships annually to deserving National or State Undergraduate Horatio Alger Scholar Alumni who are working towards a post-graduate degree in an eligible field.

Seniors at Montana high schools who want to go to college now have more help in reaching that goal. The program, administered by the Horatio Alger Association, is specifically for students who have confronted and overcome adversity in their young lives. Students from across Montana will be selected to each receive a $15,000 scholarship and have the honor of being named as a Horatio Alger Montana Scholar.

A program that awards scholarships to students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their lives who wish to pursue a career or technical education at an accredited non-profit post-secondary institution in the United States.

The Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation has created the only Native American Graduate Scholarship at Montana State University and the University of Montana. Inquiries should be made to the graduate school admissions office at Montana State University and the University of Montana.

The Scholarship upholds Dennis Washington’s long time vision of promoting the betterment of society and the development of a highly diverse workforce through education.

Dennis and Phyllis Washington are honored to express their gratitude for Helen’s friendship and loyalty by creating this educational legacy at her alma mater.
